The RDFNL is pleased to announce that the Riddell Umpires (RU) have agreed to the RDFNL administration proposal of having a full-time dedicated Umpire Operations Manager based at RDFNL HQ.
These negotiations have been ongoing for roughly 12 months with a detailed administration proposal in front of the RU Committee since February.
The move comes on the back of significant growth in football and netball and a lack of growth in the football umpiring space.
The league plans to work alongside the Riddell Umpires to improve umpire numbers, development and operations practices to make it a more inclusive and professional association.
The RDFNL will be advertising for an Umpires Operations Manager as well as other coaching positions.
RDFNL CEO Jordan Doyle said it was pleasing to see a proposal that was sent in the early stages of the year has now been been endorsed.
"We are looking forward to having a full time resource that can dedicate their week to helping the association improve in a number of areas," Doyle said.
The move for the Riddell Umpires will have minimal impact on what a game day or training environment looks like.
"This is a model that has been effective over a number of other leagues and sporting bodies and the RDFNL are pleased to take on the challenge and hope to see the Riddell Umpires flourish over the next few years," Doyle said.
"There is 42 years of history with the Riddell Umpires and the RDFNL don't want to stop or take over any of that they just want to help them improve so they can continue to thrive for another 42 years."
