2023 Previews - Diggers Rest Football

Jamie Lobb is back at Diggers Rest for another season and he is hoping he can go one better than he did last season.

He is always up for chat and has plenty to say. Here is how they are shaping up for 2023:

What are you most looking forward to about the 2023 RDFNL season?

Actually looking forward to seeing El Presidente Ben pushing a pram around at games and changing a few nappies - congrats again Steph and Ben.

How is your team looking?

Guys are still hurting from losing the GF last year, in saying that we have lost about 7/8 players and added 5/6 new faces so there is a buzz around the group already.

Have you started preseason training yet?

We went back officially on Feb 1st, but most of the guys have been training together since mid Jan.

Who are the new recruits to the club you are excited to see in action?

Mark Orr will add experience to our midfield and is a quality person to have around the club, the other new guys have all fitted in very well which is great signs early days.

Who forms part of the coaching staff/group in 2023?

Niall McGovern joins as a senior assistant coach, he will bring a wealth of knowledge the to club. Shane Bishop will look after the fitness side of things during season aswell as match day runner, SLobb will be back on the sidelines gameday as another set of eyes and I will be picking Shaun Sim's brain again when possible. Very happy with the coaching group.
Then there's old boy Heritage and Dyl Hannan looking after the reserves and Tom Swazz has stood up to coach the u'19's which is huge for both Tom and the club.

Who are the young up and coming juniors who have caught your eye?

Matt Webber will take his game to another level this year and watch out for Harry Wilson and Jai White to play major roles this year.

What improvements do you think your team will be making in 2023?

A bit more attention to detail in recovery and making sure everyone's looking after their bodies so we are peaking at the right time.

What do you think of the 2023 RDFNL competition?

Exciting times ahead - teams have been able to recruit well which is great for the league and the volunteers and families at each club will enjoy seeing the quality of players running around each week.

Who do you think will be the team to beat in 2023?

I still think Wallan, they have lost some key players but have recruited some talented young players and will be a different team to coach and play against this year.

What are your expectations or goals for the 2023 season?

To see our club keep improving both on and off the field, a flag would be a nice reward for the hard workers who make the DRFNC such a special place.
