RDFNL confirms Senior Womens Football Competition

The Bendigo Bank RDFNL will have a Senior Womens Football competition in 2023 and the league will welcome three new clubs to its ranks.

After rebranding and moving to their own stand alone competition in previous seasons the RDFNL had a junior and youth girls competition last season but were unable to field seniors.

This year with the inclusion of three new clubs that prospect became a reality.

The RDFNL will welcome in no particular order, Mount Alexander, Kyneton FNC and Melton FNC.

It has been a big week of new additions to the league and CEO Jordan Doyle is very pleased with the senior womens outcome.

’The RDFNL is filled with excitement about launching a Senior Women’s competition for 2023," Doyle Said.

"It has long been a plan for the League to offer a Senior Women’s and whilst we initially thought that 2024 was a more realistic option, we couldn’t be happier to launch in 2023,"

"We would like to thank Kyneton, Melton and Mount Alexander for making the transition across to the RDFNL and we look forward to those three Clubs joining some RDFNL Senior Club’s in the competition for 2023."

The league encourages all RDFNL Clubs to look at the option of Senior Women’s in the near future as we are committed to growing our League and want the Senior Women’s competition to thrive.

"A big thanks to RDFNL Football Operations Manager, Aaron McLean for his work with the Junior and Youth Girls Competitions for the last two seasons and the work that was put into the transfers of the three Clubs who are joining our League in 2023," Doyle said.

"This is a landmark event in RDFNL history and we are thrilled to offer all females in our community the same opportunity as the males for their football pathway’’.

All current RDFNL clubs were asked to vote on the proposal and the decision was unanimous.

Hear from the clubs.

Melton President Brian McNabb: The Melton Football Netball Club Women’s committee, coach and players are excited to be returning to their original home base.

Kyneton Football Operations Manager Natalie Korinfsky: The Kyneton Tigers saw the RDFNL as an exciting new opportunity at a more localised competition, playing neighbouring teams like Woodend and Romsey. We also see the RDFNL as a leader in developing female football pathways at the junior level and we are keen to work alongside the league and our fellow teams to help shape the new senior womens league to be competitive, inclusive and sustainable into the future.

We are excited to play local likeminded clubs and develop healthy rivalries with nearby towns such as Woodend, Melton and Romsey. We are also looking forward to continuing our close relationship with the Mt Alexander Falcons and fixturing games with our Senior Men and Netballers to build our one club approach.

Mount Alexander President Alana Wearne: We are thrilled to have been invited to join the RDFNL's new women's competition. We listened to our members and ultimately felt that there is solid alignment with the league and our club values in creating a safe, inclusive, friendly and competitive environment for women and gender diverse people. Our club looks forward to growing and developing alongside the league as we prepare for season 2023 with our first come and try day at 6.30pm on Monday December on Jaara country, Western Reserve, Castlemaine."
