Senior Finals Structure - Pending covid Restrictions

With the Victorian Government announcing on Monday that the current State Government lockdown restrictions in Metro Melbourne will continue until at least Thursday 2nd September, the RDFNL can outline how the season will take shape depending on when we are able to return to community sport.

As previously outlined, the RDFNL are mindful of ensuring adequate training time for those in metro Melbourne before games resume.

  • If able to return on September 11th: The RDFNL will go into a top 6, 4 week finals series. The Grand Final will be played at Romsey Recreation Reserve on Sunday 3rd October. The finals format will be the same as in previous years and is attached.

  • If able to return on September 18th: The RDFNL will go into a top 4, 3 week finals series. The Grand Final will be played at Romsey Recreation Reserve on Sunday 3rd October.

  • If able to return on September 24th-26th weekend: The RDFNL will go into a top 4, 2 week finals series. The Grand Final will be played at Romsey Recreation Reserve on Sunday 3rd October.

As previously mentioned, all competitions will revert to a match ratio ladder, also known as a winning percentage ladder. Ladders are ordered by the % won, instead of the points. To calculate this, it is games won divided by games played x 100. For example Team A has played 10 games and won 6, therefore their winning percentage is 60%. Note that draws are worth half a win. If two teams are tied on % won, for and against percentage is still calculated to differentiate the teams.

Thanks again for all club's support as we aim to finish the season. The RDFNL will make further announcements on venues and dates as well as the finals series hosting roster in the near future.

Junior Finals Structure - Pending Covid Restrictions

If able to resume on Sunday, September 5th:

  • Rounds 12, 13 & 14 are cancelled and we move straight into a top 4, 2 week finals series where the winners are straight into the Grand Final.

If able to resume on Sunday, September 12th:

  • Move straight into the Grand Final where it will be 1v2.

Please be advised that all competitions will revert to a match ratio ladder, also known as a winning percentage ladder. Please see below as an example from our Under 17A competition:

The RDFNL understands that the canceling of rounds will mean that the fixtures and ladders will be disrupted and at times cause some unevenness in terms of times you have played certain opposition teams and also home and away ledgers but unfortunately with three lockdowns due to the Pandemic and this being the third restructure of our Junior Competitions, we are left with no other alternative but to cancel rounds.

Thanks for all clubs understanding during this period and we hope we are back playing as soon as possible.

If restrictions are extended we will reevaluate and aim to adapt to ensure junior finals are played if possible.
